Agballa Notes - Issue 5 - The New Agballa

Hello again!

Did you forget you signed up for this newsletter? lol…understandable!

I believe in high consent marketing (which I learn a great deal about from Toi Smith and Kelly Diels), so just let me know by replying to this email that you would prefer writing only content and I’ll send you what you want! Or I can send both. Just let me know what you're thinking. And you always have the option to unsubscribe. The button is below in the footer.

Either way, thank you for being here. I appreciate each of you.

If you’ve never met me…hello! I'm Teresa. You can read a full introduction here.

If you do know me, hello! I've missed you all! So very much.

I've been away from the internet for a while. There was a lot of unresolved work trauma and internet trauma (is this a thing? It is now), resulting in burnout that I didn't even realize was inevitably creeping up on me, self-sabotage, and a fear of showing up and being seen.

There are so many lessons that have come through over the past year that I'd like to share more of when it feels good, but for now, allow me to show you around the new Agballa.

Why I Changed the Name

Like I said in my IG post, Agballa Writers has always felt restrictive even when I first thought of it. It was what I felt other people wanted to see from me.

The word “creatives” feels much more expansive. So much more me. Sometimes, I don’t want to write. Sometimes, whatever needs to come through needs a different form. Sometimes, I like doodling. Other times, it’s a poem. Once upon a time, I used to imagine in film sequences.

The Fluidity of Saying Yes

So, I said yes to the invitation to change the name. And it’s been so much fun. I always tell the young folks that come through my online writing workshops (which I still run) to follow the fun.

I’ve been saying yes to fun, to what feels good coming through, to what I want to do.

And it’s been freeing. Childlike and joyful. It’s felt fluid and refreshing, like the first dive into the ocean water, waking my skin and reminding me how luscious it is to be alive, to be able to make things.

I invite you to try it. To follow the fun. Or perhaps there was a time you remember when you said yes to the thing that sounded fun.

What happens when you follow the fun? Where does it lead you? What does it feel like in your body?

The New Agballa

2023 Agballa invites all forms of creation. Whether you’re painting or writing, curating pieces for a home, building the foundation of a business, or exploring a new creative hobby, we welcome it all.

I welcome all of you and all that you want to create, all while being lovingly guided by the Moon, her phases, Spirit, and ancestors.

And so, the New Agballa offers:

I'm excited to share more about all of these offerings and support you in bringing your creations Earthside! More on this month's Creating in Kapwa circle later this week :)

My goal is to bring you tools you can add to your creator's process, resources you can refer to in times of doubt or pivot, images and words to inspire and motivate you to keep making and putting your creations out into the world.

Because we need you. We need all of us.

The world we are collectively birthing is asking of us to follow our hearts, listen to higher guidance, follow the fun of what feels good. This is all a deeply spiritual act of love for ourselves, that which we birth, and those who receive from both.

So, what are you creating? What are you working on? What’s keeping you inspired these days? What are the tools that support you and the work that you are enjoying this season? What would be helpful as you continue forward with bringing your vision to life?

Feel free to hit reply, I always love talking story!

Things that Inspire This Week

May this message resonate, inspire, move you in whatever way you need right now.

Thank you again.

Until next time,
Teresa

I live, work, and mother as a settler on kānaka maoli land, the island of O'ahu. In support of land back initiatives and the community here, I want to amplify the work of Oʻahu Water Protectors, The Hawai'i People's Fund, and The Hawai'i Community Bail Fund. Our support of these organizations is to support the kānaka community in defending their land and waters.

If you ever feel the need to unsubscribe, I respect that. The button is below. Thank you for reading this far.

read time: ~7 min happy full moon aquarius, jupiter in leo cazimi, Reader! this past weekend, my family and I were invited to join my partner’s brother’s friends/chosen family on their annual camping trip. we said yes, and it was a beautiful, unexpected three days “off-the-grid.” no reception, no phone, no tech. I believe hollywood grooms us to be afraid of moments like these, and I’m also not naive to the fact that could have been a dangerous situation, but we were in good company. we were...

hey Reader! this mercury rx has been slapping me right around 😅 hbu? lots has been going on behind-the-scenes, lots of ideas and movement and what we call in our house, action jaction!! all good things, really, and I feel incredibly blessed and grateful that the things I’ve been asking for are being shown in real time. and also, I’ve been rushing through things to check them off the list (iykyk). like, last week, I fired off this newsletter cuz it was on the list WITHOUT double checking,...

hey Reader, blessed new moon in cancer! what’s been coming up for you emotionally lately? how is it showing up in your work, home, and creative practice? feel free to reply if you’d like to share, or use this as a journal prompt. I’ve been thinking about “self-care” vs. “self-centered,” and the deep connection between care, home, and belonging. water, memory, ancestors, emotion—these are the themes of this cycle. so here’s lesson three from my recent fallow period: our first home is...
